Phoenix Weapons, also called Phoenixes, are powerful super-soldiers genetically engineered by the ancient humans of Earth using alien biology. They were used to end the Great War which by then had rendered the planet uninhabitable. The Phoenixes were sealed away in a vault for centuries until they were reawakened in the events of Phoenotopia.

Phoenix Weapons are super-powered soldiers engineered using the DNA of a preserved alien creature dubbed Adam. Only two Phoenixes have been seen in-game, one being Unit 0066. This Phoenix appears as a dark skinned human with purple hair which has a lock sticking up. When activated, he visibly emanates energy and has glowing eyes. In battle, Unit 0066 is shown to be capable of flight, super-strength, and the ability to fire large energy beams.
Although very destructive, the Phoenixes were made to obey the owner of a special key that was safeguarded by the Stellanites and passed down through generations, ultimately being inherited by Billy. When Unit 0066 first emerged, he looked around the room curiously, but upon being commanded by Billy using the key, his demeanor changed and he displayed total mechanical obedience.
Gale is revealed to have Phoenix powers herself when she is attacked by Unit 0066 under Billy's command. Despite taking a direct hit from Unit 0066's energy beam, Gale not only survived unscathed but also suddenly had the ability to fly and harness energy just like Unit 0066. Unfortunately, her powers are not fully developed so she was unable to retaliate with her own laser beam.
Nevertheless, this explains her amazing feats throughout the game, such as defeating a fully grown Sand Dragon or fighting on par with Arcs and Harpies, which have been said to be impossible for a normal human to achieve. Gale has the ability to use the power of Ki, which is completely hereditary and very rare among humans. This may imply that Ki is the source of the Phoenix's powers, as well as the further implication that Gale may be descended from a Phoenix.
Trivia[]
- During development of the first game, Gale's original design confused people into thinking she was a boy. After some modifications, this design was eventually used for Unit 0066 instead.
- Phoenixes were called "Witches" early on in the game's development, and flew around on swords as though they were surfboards. There were a variety of names, including 'Soiyons', that were used, before Phoenix was eventually settled on.
