Ki is a powerful energy force in Phoenotopia that, when properly channeled, can significantly increase the attacking power of the individual using it. Ki is primarily seen in Phoenix Weapons as well as powerful fighters who practice Ki Martial Arts. There are also items that can be used to assist in Ki channeling, such as the Ki Spear Technique Scroll and the Nebula Armlet.

Description[]

Ki is a type of energy that can be utilized by humans, and perhaps other beings. Its origins and nature are not detailed, but it is known to have existed since ancient times as evidenced by the description on certain items such as the Nebula Armlet. Only a rare percentage of humans have the ability to use Ki as it is entirely hereditary. These people, known as Ki Practitioners or Ki Martial Artists, possess increased strength and other powers. When Ki is being used, it often manifests as bright, glowing blue energy.

Before the events of Phoenotopia, Gale had been partaking in Ki training in Panselo's dojo under Cadell's guidance; as such, she is able to channel Ki to use in combat. By pressing and holding the attack button, Gale can charge her melee weapon with Ki to deliver a powerful charged attack that deals extra damage to enemies. In Phoenotopia: Awakening, these charged attacks can also break through certain enemies' defenses.

The player can also have Gale do up to three charged attacks in quick succession by charging Gale's weapon and then mashing the attack button as she swings. This move was originally a glitch that allowed Gale do an endless amount of consecutive charged attacks, but the developer nerfed it and left it in the game as a secret move.

Once Gale obtains the Nebula Armlet, her ability to manipulate Ki becomes stronger, allowing her to charge her weapon more quickly. Upon receiving the Ki Spear Technique Scroll from Aella, an old friend and fellow Ki fighter, Gale is also able to charge the Javelin with Ki.

66 also demonstrates his Ki abilities when ordered by Billy to kill Gale. Being a Phoenix Weapon, he's able to use Ki to its maximum potential, which grants him a myriad of powers including flight, super speed, super strength, and the ability to fire giant laser beams. The dialogue seen after Billy watches Gale survive 66's laser beam and discovers that she herself is a Phoenix Weapon implies that Gale has the same or similar powers, but the extent of her powers are never revealed because she doesn't know how to use them.
